Schedule: Monday – Friday 1st shift – Saturdays as needed


United Construction & Forestry is looking for a Field Service Technician responsible for repairing and maintaining electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial, construction, forestry, milling, and paving equipment, generally independently and outside the actual conformities of the shop.


What You’ll Do

  • Reads job order and observes and listens to equipment in operation to determine malfunction and plans work procedures
  • Installs fuel injection nozzles and pumps, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions, hydraulic systems and component parts
  • Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on equipment, and makes adjustments
  • Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications
  • Fabricates special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
  • Removes, replaces, and repairs tires, undercarriages, and earth moving and timber harvesting attachments, milling, and paving attachments
  • Enters a legible description of work performed onto the work orders
  • Maintains and cares for the shop tools and equipment
  • Ensure work is performed safely and safe work procedures are followed throughout the department
  • Reads schematics denoting operating specifications for unit or component and type of evaluation required
  • Continues to work on revenue producing work as needed
  • Tests unit for conformance with operating requirements such as specified horsepower and lifting performance
  • Help ensure that our new and used whole goods are in good working conditions
  • Maintains assigned service vehicle in areas of cleanliness, daily maintenance and inspections
  • Complies with all state laws while operating company vehicle
Requirements

What It Takes

  • Must own and maintain their own tools (specialty tools provided by dealership)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to assemble and perform maintenance functions
  • Able to work a varying work schedule/shift and be flexible to respond to after-hour calls
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent oral communication and written skills
  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred

  • Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
  • Heavy Equipment license

Education

- High school diploma or GED

  • Stand for long periods of time, bend, lay, and crawl under to repair and service machines
  • Lift parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Able to maneuver on/under heavy equipment and on agricultural/construction sites with irregular terrain
  • Operate a motor vehicle during both day and night as well
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision and color vision.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, type or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk.
