SRB:

The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective.

Job Description:

SEASONAL TECHNICIAN GENERAL DESCRIPTION

  • The Seasonal Technician reports directly to the General Foreman. Must possess a current valid Massachusetts driver’s license and an excellent driving record.

  • Willingness to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to lift/use the following: axe, shovel, etc. for brush and stream cleaning.

  • Willingness to work odd hours, and overtime, as situation demands.

  • Personal neatness and ability to interact with public and officials, both in person and by telephone.

  • Must be punctual, dependable, and comply with work schedules.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep trucks, equipment and Project facilities clean and in good working order.

  • Apply pesticides in approved manner with truck mounted equipment and by hand.

  • Hand clean streams, ponds of brush, logs, debris.

  • Survey for mosquito larvae and adults.

  • Record daily work on smartphone or tablet

  • Assist in evaluations of pesticide efficacy.

  • Assist in aerial application of pesticides.

  • Vacation time between June 1st and September 30th may be taken with Superintendent approval only.

AFTER SELECTION, APPLICANT MUST LEARN AND/OR OBTAIN

  • Massachusetts pesticide applicators permit.

  • Operation of Ultra Low Volume and other conventional spray equipment.

  • Elements of mosquito biology and identification.

  • Operation of power equipment such as chain saw, brush cutter.

  • Knowledge of street and topography of assigned communities.
