Job Summary

Summary - Responsible for the day-to-day regulatory operations of the Hospital reporting to Sr. Manager, Facilities Operations and Planning.
Life Safety Functions:
-Ensuring Compliance: Responsible for ensuring that the healthcare facility adheres to all applicable fire safety codes, regulations, and standards, including those set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), state, and local fire departments.
-Risk Assessment: Conducts risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate safety measures. Attend weekly Preconstruction Risk Assessment (PCRA) meetings and perform weekly Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) inspections on active projects.
-Policy and Procedure Development: Develop, implement, and manage policies and procedures to address safety concerns, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and incident response protocols.
-Education and Training: Provides staff with training and education on fire safety, and other safety-related topics.
-Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections of fire safety systems, equipment, and facilities to ensure they are in good working order.
-Coordination with External Agencies: Work with local fire departments, and other external organizations to ensure compliance and coordinate response efforts.
-Investigation and Documentation: Investigates incidents, analyzes data, and documents findings to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
-Continuous Improvement: Work to continuously improve safety programs and practices to reduce risks and enhance the overall safety of the facility.
-Activities to include:
-Assisting with fire drills and evacuation exercises.
-Ensures proper maintenance of fire safety equipment and systems.
-Developing and implementing safety training programs.
-Reviewing and updating safety policies and procedures.
-Investigating safety incidents and recommending corrective actions.
EOC Functions
- Environment of Care (EOC) Chair in healthcare leads the multidisciplinary committee responsible for ensuring the physical environment of a hospital or clinical facility is safe, functional, and compliant with regulatory standards. Oversee key safety programs, including life/fire safety, hazardous materials, security, medical equipment, and utility systems.
he responsibilities of an EOC Chair include:
- Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation: Interpreting and enforcing standards from authoritative bodies like The Joint Commission (TJC). This includes conducting periodic performance reviews and preparing the facility for safety audits.
- Meeting Facilitation: Setting the agenda, leading regular (usually monthly) meetings, and managing a multidisciplinary committee to ensure representation from administration, clinical staff, and support services.
- Safety Rounding & Hazard Evaluation: Coordinating routine "EOC Rounds" (inspections of patient and non-patient areas) to identify hazards, assess safety practices, and implement corrective actions.
- Performance Improvement (PI): Establishing risk assessment criteria to prioritize facility improvements, coordinating PI projects, and evaluating their effectiveness over time.
- Reporting & Documentation: Compiling quarterly reports and annual program evaluations, and keeping comprehensive documentation of all safety management plans, inspection findings, and resolution statuses.
