JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the day-to-day operation and production within the Design Center. The Design Center Specialist will oversee the design and physical creation of printed material for use across the Lottery; ensuring high-quality output from the initial design phase through to final printing and installation. The Specialist acts as the technical expert on pre-press requirements, material selection, and brand consistency across all physical lottery touchpoints.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee large format printing requests from project management system for regional offices and retail locations.

  • Work with Adobe creative cloud software to design and edit pieces for print.

  • Develop templates and best practices for common projects within team and across the organization.

  • Preflight and RIP art for in-house large format production.

  • Operate and maintain large-format printer and other Design Center equipment.

  • Oversee all procurement for Design Center equipment and materials. Conducting regular communication with outside vendors.

  • Manage production and in certain cases installation of promotional/marketing materials (banners, posters, boards, window clings, etc.) for internal and external exhibition.

  • Edit copy for use across printed material.

  • Design and produce communication materials, i.e., flyers/brochures/prize structures.

  • Work with the Design Manager, creative team and Lottery departments to design and produce materials and sets for in-house, live promotions, game shows, and commercial productions.

  • Participate in the creation of other promotional and marketing efforts.

  • Align to branding standards, maintain and update design templates.

  • Work collaboratively with creative team and marketing.

  • Research and keep up to date on printing and design technology and innovations.

  • Work Lottery’s daily live drawing or remote/studio productions as needed.

  • Occasionally work nights and weekends.

  • Occasional travel within Massachusetts.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

NOTE: Per the bargaining unit contract, the salary for this position will increase by 2% effective July 12, 2026.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in Adobe’s Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).

  • Portfolio demonstrating technical expertise and creative background is a must.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience designing for print and digital as part of a creative agency (external or in-house).

  • Strong understanding of foundational design principles including composition, color theory, illustration, and typography

  • Excellent ability to communicate clearly within a team setting, able to set and manage expectations around deadlines and utilization of resources.

  • Ability to gracefully take constructive feedback and pivot as new design challenges arise.

  • Must have excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Self-starter who ensures projects are completed in a timely manner.

  • Excellent attention to detail for trimming and finishing printed pieces.

  • A valid driver’s license plus the ability to travel throughout Massachusetts are both required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Graphic Design or equivalent related experience.

  • Prior experience operating large format printers and finishing equipment.

  • Experience designing assets such as retail posters, signage and out-of-home marketing materials.

  • Strong knowledge of print production processes including pre-press preparation, material selection, finishing methods, and large-format output requirements.

  • Knowledge of legacy software Quark, PageMaker, and printer software.

  • Ability to operate and maintain XEROX Iridesse Production Press.

Salary Range Information

For external applicants who are not current employees of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (MSLC), the non-negotiable starting salary for this position is $84,090.55 (Job Grade 24/Step 1). Per the bargaining unit contract, the salary for this position will increase by 2% effective July 12, 2026.

For current MSLC union employees, the starting salary for this position will be calculated using union promotional rules.
