Job Summary

The Ortho-Urology Unit (Ellison 6) is a thirty-six-bed adult inpatient orthopedic/urology/surgery unit. The patient population includes orthopedic and urologic patients who are post-surgical intervention and pre-surgery from Emergency Department, front door or clinical admissions.

Schedule:

Days (7am-3pm7am-7pm), Evening (3pm-11pm), and Nights (7pm-7am, 11pm-7am)
Mandatory weekend shifts every month.
Holiday rotating schedule.

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) supports the multidisciplinary healthcare team in providing safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care. PCA assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support, while promoting comfort and maintaining patient dignity. Responsibilities also include monitoring and documenting vital signs, obtaining EKGs, drawing blood, and responding promptly to patient requests while safeguarding confidentiality and always ensuring patient safety.

Essential Functions
- Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
- Complete all documentation in the medical record as required.
- Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
- Helps patients with several basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them.
- Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.
- Listen to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses.

Experience

- Strong patient/customer service skills.
